Editing photos for a more beautiful blog

3

This post was originally posted up on my own blog but I thought that may be it may prove useful to new bloggers and so I’m sharing it here…

Us blogging folk love sharing photographs, be it a Silent Sunday or Saturday is Caption Day weekend photo post or an picture accompanying a post we use images to enhance the appearance of our blogs.

There are some really simple, quick and free things that you can do to enhance your photographs that you add to your blog. This post has been inspired by some of the lovely photographs in ‘SnapShot Tuesday’ over on Love Photo Blogs .

The tool to make your blog more beautiful ? Picnik. A free online photo editing site, Picnik give you huge scope over enhancing your photos. It’s completely free (although there is a premium service where you pay something like £24 per year which gives you even more scope) but the free option gives you more then enough to change the way you view your photos forever.

So today I asking for you to mail me a photo, any photo you like – I’ll pimp it in Picnik and pop it up on here (with a link to you of course) and tell you how I worked some magic! I love a challenge so BRING IT ON! lovenewblogs@gmail.com

Here’s a few examples using a couple of my own photos…

Picnik’s great – http://picnik.com – go and have fiddle with your photos!

Thanks to the lovely BlueBirdSunshine for pinging me this photo!

By going to Effects on Picnik and selecting ’60’s’ and then ‘cross process’ and then a simple crop you get

Or by selecting Effects – Black and White, Infared film and then Holgaish you get

Thank you to Queen Biscuit for this one …

A crop, a whizz of cinemascope (un-letterboxed) and soft focus from the Effects tab and BAM!

And you can round corners and add borders … such joys as a polaroid vibe too…

Thanking kindly Actually Mummy for this purrrrty one…

Which is already super but with a bit of a colour boost from the effects tab..

Emma emailed in this already lovely photo…

That was already a-m-a-z-i-n-g, so I went in to Effects, added Sepia, tweaked the exposure in Basic Settings and sharpened and clarified…

This photograph has been sent over via cyber-pigeon from At least daddy can cook…

With a tweak using Effects – 1960s, a slight ‘cross-process’ and a crop using the ‘golden ratio’ option. Frames ->rounded corners set to slightly rounded to take the edges off the image.

And when you go to Frames – round corners and set it to maximum setting for roundness…

And finally a big crop, followed by Effects -‘black and white’ and then ‘infa-red film’ and you get…

Do you have any suggestions of alternate free photo-pimping sites now that Picnic is closing in April?
