It’s a new kind of Love Photo Blogs this week. Our lovely Snapshot Tuesday is no more and we’ve moved to Mondays where we can be with the rest of the Love All Blogs gang. We hope you’ll love us just as much in our new spot, if not more. I mean I don’t know about you, I can’t think of a better way to start the week than looking at a load of lovely, lovely blogs with some pretty, pretty pictures.
I’ve been thinking this week about the phrase “A picture is worth a thousand words”. Words are the tools of the blogger are they not? But then I think that in a lot of cases, photos are too. With the vast majority of blog posts the balance of words-to-pictures will tip heavily in favour of words. However I often think that it’s the pictures, especially photographs, that really speak to the reader.
On my own blog, my weekends are reserved for photos alone. I don’t post words on weekends. But this isn’t because of laziness or to preserve family time; although these are great bonuses of the photo-only-post. I do this because I love photo posts. Photos definitely have a place in supporting the written word when it comes to blog posts, but there is really nothing better than allowing your readers to put their own words to your photos through their comments and captions. It never ceases to surprise me the different ways that people interpret photos. And in that way I think that photos are often far more powerful than the written word could ever be.
Silent Sunday and Saturday is Caption Day are staples of my weekly blog diary, as I know they are for many other bloggers. In fact I think there are enough photo linkys running, that you could post nothing but photos and still get a post out every day.
As we approach the end of 2011, I’ve started thinking about things I want to do in the new year. Improving my own photography is high up on the list. And after following The Boy and Me’s 365 series in which she has posted a photo everyday, I have decided to set myself the same challenge.
So who is with me? Who is up for taking a new photo everyday? And for posting it for all the world to see? I’m really looking forward to having a visual record of my year. And if lots of you lovely photo blogger types choose to join in too, then I’m also looking forward to getting to see lots more lovely photos in 2012. And seeing more gorgeousness here on the Love Photo Blogs’ The Weekly Snapshot too, of course!!!!
Intro. by Dear Beautiful Boy
Being a photographer. Being a dad
If photography has given me anything it has given me the desire to capture memories of my little boy Cole. There’s been times when I haven’t taken any photographs or wanted to take photographs! But along the way I’ve made sure I have captured some memories of Cole growing up. Its so amzing to look back on. Not all these photos are taken with a big clunky slr either. In fact some of my favourite images of Cole have been caught on an iphone. It really is true when the say the best camera is the one you have with you. I often sit back and just scroll through the images on my phone. Its amazing how many you take and unbelievable how fast they grow.
So below are some photos I have taken of my little boy along the way. Some on an slr, some on an iphone. All as important…
A surreal experience for kids at The Collection
An ambitious, interactive, multi-media installation that reflects the different aspects of the cycle of life. The ‘Four Seasons’ combines interactive technology, sound installations, high quality visual production and the company’s trademark sense of humour.
It’s not often that you wake up to the news that 10 new groups of (imaginary if you’re new to this) Cheetahs have moved in. Neither do you expect, on the same day, to receive the “very good news” that the Banana People have given birth to 10 babies today. So, as far as I’m aware, here’s the current roll-call in the Cheetah Keeper’s menagerie…
Photog Porn: 50mm
So… I’ve been wanting to get myself some 50mm lenses for a wee while now… But like the iPad (which I am still trying to convince myself that would be a necessity in order to justify getting one) I just couldn’t justify investing the £100 (min) to get one when I have a perfectly functioning 18-80mm that can technically do the same thing and more…
So… WHY get 50mm lenses??? I mean… is superfluous and all that… right?!?! RIGHT??? RIIIIIGHT???

Snap Slappers Week 3
I’m going from strength to strength. So far my record for Picniking is about 4 hours in one session. You know, when you get sucked in, tweaking and adjusting and doodling and then you look up and not only has your tea gone cold but your children have redecorated the sitting room, and there appears to be someone asleep on the sofa.
