09-01-12 – The Craft Weekly Showcase

Another week over already! I missed most of it I think through a haze of wind and rain. I hope you’ve all been very busy making wonderful things or us all to admire – haven’t even seen my sewing machine since before Christmas but I’m hoping that your inspiring entries to the weekly craftiness will encourage me dig it out. It looks like a good bunch this week (we expect nothing less of course!) and I’m looking forward to my now ritual Monday morning coffee and crafty surfing. Happy crafty week to you all and here’s hoping the goddess of craft, of at least the parton saint of craftspeople (Saint Eliguis so I’m told) shines on your work! Tee hee
Thats got me wondering – is there a parton saint of bloggers? Should we find one – of are the elected……… Suggestions anyone??????? I may start a new discussion of the forums!

Multiple Mummy – Outdoor Craft Adventures

Outdoor Craft Adventures

Oh boy have we felt trapped this week. With two out of my three with chicken pox and one eminent we have had to conjure up all sorts of imagination to keep us occupied…

So today we came up with this idea. We would go on a nature trail…outdoors but in our own back garden, and we would stick our findings to a piece of cardboard that we had covered in double-sided glue spots.

Upcycled Creatively – Upcycled Teddy Sleeping Bag Tutorial

Upcycled Teddy Sleeping Bag Tutorial

If you have had a sort out of your wardrobe recently you probably found some old, out of shape, not good for wearing clothes. Hopefully you found something made from jersey fleece fabric (jersey like a t-shirt, with soft fleece on the other side). That is what I used and it fitted the job perfectly. I used an out of shape bright red jumper. The beauty of using a jersey/fleece type fabric is that it doesn’t fray, is easy to cut to shape and is thicker than standard t-shirt material. Well…we don’t want teddy to be cold do we?!

The good life mum – Sodium bicarbonate and vinegar for kids

Sodium bicarbonate and vinegar for kids

we did some experimenting today with Sodium bicarbonate and vinegar.

I set up some cups of sodium bicarbonate with a mixture of glitter, liquid colours and scents so when Sophie added the vinegar not only did it fizz but it gave off different smells, colours and sparkled.

With lots of laughing from Sophie when the pots fizzed she even got a wiff of the scents i put in too.
After all the fizzing she played happily spooning the mixture and exploring the consistence.

i have to say my platter we played on came up sparling clean after we had finished

Here come the Girls – Cereal Box Pencil Pots

Cereal Box Pencil Pots

Whenever it was the holidays we would always have the little boxes of cereal as a special treat for breakfast. Most of them are the same as the normal cereal a couple were really sugary or chocolately so it felt like they were really naughty. While I was staying at my parents my mum had done the same thing for my daughter and she was really excited to be able to choose her own little box each morning.

Cupcakes for Clara – My Oh My Handmade Entry

My Oh My Handmade Entry

My name is Clara. This is a blog all about me and my wonderfulness (but not my sister Macy – she is the one with boring brown hair). I am extremely funny AND clever, (but not at all grumpy), which you will discover when you read this.

A lady called Laura Clempson thinks she created me five years ago during a lunchbreak when she worked as a puppet maker. But it’s not true. I was me all along. Nothing to do with her.

She thinks she’s so clever making all these paper dolls and stationery and toys with me on…

Kids&crafts: Javier and his monster

Today I want to share with you this little christmas story, if we could call it that way, it made me learn something about what should be our roll like moms.
Javier is my 5 years old nephew and one of the things he asked for christmas was something to sew. Maybe…

making it up – a creative challenge

the project is this gorgeous bracelet. I’m fairly sure it’s an easy project, and while the yarn is discontinued I have some recycled silk sari yarn that I think might work. (Expect me back here in a few hours whinging that it won’t…)

So, anyone with me? Anyone else want to stretch their wings creatively?

I’m sticking a linky in to see what you get up to…

Model, Make and Mend – Bag a crafty charity bargain!

Bag a crafty charity bargain!

I went out to the post office in my local village yesterday afternoon and found these gorgeous RSPB pin badges on the counter. I couldn’t resist them and at (a suggested donation of) £1 each, thought they were quite a bargain. They look great on a jacket, or you could incorporate them into some sort of crafty make – embellishing a bag or a handmade card, for example.

When I got home I started thinking about all the other charities that must have online shops and was amazed at the great range of crafty items I came across.

Me and My Shadow – Take One Jumper Challenge

Take One Jumper Challenge

As you know, I love to thrift and I love to craft, so turning something old into something new has all the excitement of pure alchemy for me. I don’t profess to be good at making things, in fact my new mantra is “it’s not perfect, it’s handmade”. Anyway, it adds to the charm I think!

Quite a lot of my Magpie Monday posts have shown items that I’ve bought with the intention of upcycling, so now it’s time to show you some of the outcomes.

Read on to join my in this upcycling challenge, and you could win!!!

Bakes, Books & My Boys – Bunting – Making my own & Free Template

Bunting - Making my own & Free Template

At home we have a blank kitchen wall. Being a new house and not an outside wall its not strong enough to hang anything on so after flicking through a lot of expensive magazines I noticed bunting is very much “in” and fashionable at the moment so I thought there’s nothing to lose I’ll use bunting to cheer the wall up. Then I saw the price! However all bunting is material cut in a triangle sewn to ribbon, therefore no reason not to make my own.

beepbeep designs – Victory is mine!

Victory is mine!

I finished Emily’s birth sampler!

(Emily is 17 months old)

The sampler was made from a kit by the Historical Sampler Company although they don’t seem to make this design any more (they do still have the animal one I made for Laura as well as many other lovely designs).

Now my task for today is to frame it (HOT TIP – Ikea Ribba three photo frames are the exact right size for these long samplers, if you make four vertical cuts to the mount to remove the cross-bars).

Alicia’s hiding place – Javier and his monster

Javier and his monster

Today I want to share with you this little christmas story, if we could call it that way, it made me learn something about what should be our roll like moms.
Javier is my 5 years old nephew and one of the things he asked for christmas was something to sew. Maybe, I think, because he usually saw one of her aunts doing softies from recycled t-shirts.
My sister in law, Julie went out to toystores and crafts stores searching for a sewing kit for Javier. She didn’t found one…

Skulls & Ponies – Contemporary vs. Classic Embroidery

Contemporary vs. Classic Embroidery

It’s funny to look at the type of embroidery my Grandma did alongside the embroidery I do. I love the classic look my Grandma achieved – but it’s interesting to compare the two.

Tired Mummy of Two – What a Weekend

What a Weekend

Ok so I am not crafty but I was really proud of this and it was really hard work. Its the closest I will come to being in this section.

It was hard, my muscles really hurt but the look on her face was worth every single second.
When I started at 9am Saturday morning this room was magnolia.
